Sometimes I Leave Xenoblade X Running Just to Listen to the Music

As I write this post, Xenoblade Chronicles X is up on my TV, its music blasting from my surround sound system—just as it has been for hours. I haven’t really played the game at all today. In fact, the most I have done in the game is move my character (Kotaku-tan, naturally) to a different area in the world—you know, to change the music track. That’s how good the soundtrack of Xenoblade Chronicles X is. Here, let me share some of my favorites with you. In the daytime, the background n98 for the city of New Los Angeles is called “N市L街A” and sounds like this. And now for z16 ทางเข้า the city’s smooth after-hours music. The theme song for the desert biome known as “The Forgotten Valley” is “亡KEI却KOKU心”—a song which comes with a lot of drums and an awesome strings section to make the whole area feel as epic as it is massive. This one z16 is called “Uncontrollable.” It is the mini-boss battle music in the “Forest of Nocturnal Luminescence” and it’s probably my favorite track of the game so far. (Here’s the song on YouTube without my in-battle sound effects getting in the way.) The soundtrack is the product of Hiroyuki Sawano—a name that the anime fans among you may recognize. He has worked as a composer on recent hits Attack on Titan, Kill La Kill, and Aldnoah.Zero, among others. Xenoblade Chronicles X was released in Japan on April 29, 2015, for the Wii U. It will be released in the West sometime in 2015.
